SDIM‘s cooperative research in 2018

December 30.2018

This year, SDIM also collaborated with Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management, the University of Peshawar-Pakistan, National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal, and Bangladesh Agricultural University to develop space technologies and application systems facilitating disaster risks reduction for floods, glacier lake outbursts, and landslides. This collaboration also resulted in sharing of local observation data, disaster statistical data and space observation data between the parties involved. SDIM has developed a collaborative R&D mode, suitable for Belt and Road countries.

Meanwhile, SDIM collected and sorted data on the frequency, triggers and scope of typical disasters in major countries along the Belt and Road. This data provide the basis for developing disaster-specific, integrated and data intensive models based on multi-source remote sensing data. The collected data was used to calculate the frequency, death toll, affected population and economic losses of multiple disasters such as, flood, drought, mudslide, forest fire, earthquake and other major natural disasters for the past three decades on a regional basis and statistical analysis was carried out to evaluate the general patterns of natural disasters in the Belt and Road region.
