Ice Silk Road collaboration to address disasters

On September 4, SDIM co-hosted the workshop on disasters along the Ice Silk Road in Moscow, Russia. The deputy director of SDIM, Prof. Chen Fang, led a four-member delegation to the event, which was attended by nearly 30 officials, including Prof. Valery Bondur, vice president of Russian Academy of Sciences, head of AEROCOSMOS, and foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Dr. Igor Savin, deputy head of Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute and corresponding member of Russian Academy of Sciences; Prof. Vladimir Tikunov, Director of the Regional Center World Data System, Lomonosov Moscow State University; and Prof. Paulo Menezes, former vice-president of the International Cartographic Association. The meeting discussed the outburst of glaciers and glacier lakes, forest fires, agricultural droughts and Arctic environmental changes along the Ice Silk Road, as well as further cooperation to apply space technology for disaster risk reduction towards the development of the Ice Silk Road and the fulfillment of SDGs in Eurasia.
