August 28.2013
To better provide scientific and advisory services, during the 8th International Symposium on Digital Earth (ISDE8) from August 27 to 28, 2013, the 1st High-level Meeting on Space Technology for Disaster Risk Reduction in Developing Countries was successfully hosted by SDIM in Kuching, Malaysia. Over 20 experts from international organizations (e.g., CEOS, GEO, IRDR, ISDE and ITC, etc.) and developing countries (e.g., Cambodia, Morocco, Malaysia, and Chile) attended the meeting. The meeting reached a consensus on improving the space technology for disaster mitigation in developing countries through cooperation, and decided to set up a Joint Working Group (JWG) formed by experts from international organizations and developing countries. SDIM will work with these partners to start the preparatory work for setting up the JWG and plan to complete scientific reports, including the Scientific Report on Space Technology for Disaster Mitigation in Developing Countries within three years.
