To better provide scientific and advisory services, SDIM has taken up basic information collection through various channels. Media released information from national governments and international organizations, such as UNISDR, IRDR and GEO, are extracted and processed. The firsthand information which includes the immediate experience of natural hazard situation, earth observation application status in disaster mitigation, and the challenges in different developing countries, is directly obtained from local researchers and international partners. SDIM has also drafted “Broad Framing of Scientific Report on Space Technology for Disaster Mitigation in Asia Pacific Developing Countries”. Based on the previous accrued knowledge and statistics from SDIM and other channels, a scientific status report on disaster risk reduction in developing countries is going to be released.
