Preparation of the Belt and Road disaster reduction report

December 30.2016

In 2016, SDIM decided to set its strategic focus on space-based disaster reduction for the Belt and Road Initiative, and organized the preparation of a strategic report. Urban disaster risk reduction is a key area laid out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Belt and Road Initiative touches on urbanization and involves risks of urban disasters. In view of this, SDIM will first prepare a report analyzing disaster risk management in the process of China’s urbanization, and then develop the Belt and Road disaster reduction report on its basis. The report will analyze disaster risks under the conditions of new urbanization, examine the impact of earthquake, geological disaster, flood, drought, storm and climate change on the progress of new urbanization, and put forward recommendations on how to cope with disaster risks in the process of urbanization, so as to lay a foundation for responding to disaster risks in the process of the Belt and Road Initiative.
