Background
CAS-TWAS Center of Excellence on Space Technology for Disaster Mitigation (CoE STDM) is jointly sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and hosted at the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), CAS.
STDM organizes conference, seminar, or session on Earth observation and disaster mitigation every year. These events facilitate the broad discussion of capacity development for disaster risk reduction, innovative Earth observation products and tools for disaster management and mitigation, and spatial technology and integrated disaster research. Participants to the conference include experts from developing countries, UN agencies, ICSU, intergovernmental organizations in the Earth observation field (e.g., GEO, CEOS), NGOs, and TWAS (TWAS Fellows are specially invited).
The program is designed to promote international scientific collaborations between STDM and researchers in developing countries. In this way the STDM hopes that more researchers in developing countries can present their work to, and network with, scientists in their related fields.
Travel grants will be offered to a limited number of attendants from developing countries. All attendants from developing countries who will be presenting a conference paper are eligible for travel support. The grants are intended to partially offset travel costs for presenting attendants to attend the STDM conference or seminar. To be eligible for the travel grant, a paper must be presented at the conference.
1. Submit abstract for oral presentation to the STDM Secretariat.
Topic of presentation must focus on natural disasters in relation with floods, droughts, earthquakes, tropical cyclones, storms, etc. with a main emphasis in developing countries.
2. Submit travel grant application form to the STDM Secretariat.
The applicant will be required to attach your curriculum vitae together with the travel grant application form. Incomplete application will not be considered.
* Applicants fill in the application documents and submit them to the STDM Secretariat at stdm@ceode.ac.cn or by fax +86-10-8217-8959.
The STDM will select a limited number of applications, whose abstracts of paper have been evaluated as outstanding. All applications will be assessed by a travel grants assessment committee set up under the STDM. The number of grant recipients and the funding level should be decided by the committee. Applications will be assessed on a first-come first-served basis. The selected applications will be notified by e-mail and through the STDM website.
