On June 4, 2015, SDIM and China Committee for Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR China) jointly hosted the International Young Disaster Reduction Scholars Forum themed on “Integrated Management of Disaster Risks and Disaster Reduction Capacity Building” at the Laoshan Campus of the Ocean University of China in Qingdao, Shandong. The forum attracted about 40 experts and young scholars from Pakistan, Iran, Egypt, Costa Rica, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand and China.

Aimed to improve the theoretical knowledge of young scholars in developing countries on how to use science and technology to reduce disasters, the forum offered symposiums and trainings on multidisciplinary theories and methods for integrated disaster reduction. Specifically systematic training was provided by means of group discussion, role play and self-cognition discovery on integrated disaster reduction in order to foster practical professionals in this regard for developing countries.
